Outdoor optics are very important, especially if you're at altitude and/or on snow or ice. If you're on the water consider polarized lens' to enhance your vision. Maintain the lens properly so you avoid micro-scratching the surfaces. Use a proper case not just for impact protection, but to make it harder to misplace and loose your glasses.
