Aconcagua Gear Review: Rab Expedition Kitbag 120

Written by: Shannon & Tyson Head (@restlesscrusade)

Our trip itinerary was firmed up, the gear was organized and ready to be packed, but we needed something heavy duty to pack it. Our gear would be handled by multiple plane rides, shuttle transfers, mule treks as well as probably dragged around in the dirt for our quest to summit Aconcagua.

The RAB Expedition kitbag 120 is perfect for all around travel. A huge perk would be the detachable shoulder straps so it can be worn like a backpack. We each had two of them and we could even wear one on front and one on back making transport on foot easier then the traditional carry side by side.

This is not just your average duffle. It has two end handles which make luggage grab off the airport carousel quick and easy. The double thickness base makes for ease of mind when we were too fatigued to carry the bags for short distances and we could just slide them along. Inside are 2 zippered pockets right under the lid to keep small stuff from getting lost as well as one big end pocket too.

The duffle unzips with the lid conveniently folding back to make a large opening so you do not have to fight with getting gear in and out. The zippers meet together offering a lockable loop for piece of mind to keep your gear safe. Our bags got loaded on the mules for our expedition with ropes through the convenient side webbing loops and the ends have compression straps as well to keep the bag sturdy if not full to the brim. It was then bounced around for over 20 kms one way with no issues.

These bags are made of tough fabric with DWR making them quite waterproof. One of our bags was returned to us off the plane soaking wet on the outside but completely dry on the inside. These bags also took 4 mule rides (50 km round trip) bouncing around, being tied down super tight, basking in the sun, and still they look new.

These are not just for expedition travel. We have since gone on a new adventure and they are accompanying us along to a hot climate. This is the perfect bag for any adventure up your sleeve whether it be a hot holiday or a cold high altitude expedition.

We would definitely recommend these RAB Expedition kitbags. The 120 L is big, and fits everything one would need. We like it so much we will be getting another one, but smaller this time for weekend trips etc.
