Gear Review: Petzl Swift LT Headlamp & Bug Climbing Pack 18L

Written by Brittany Brydon (@britt.venturesout.photography)

One thing we really value is being fast and light on the trail! Whether we’re heading out for early mornings or descending after sunset, and no matter what type of light we’re working with or outdoor activity we’re doing, we always pack a headlamp because it’s important for safety!

We love the Bug 18L pack and the SWIFT LT headlamp combo from Petzl for caving, but they work just as well for rock climbing and hiking! We took both out on a recent adventure to some caves in Chilliwack BC and loved how both items performed! The backpack held everything we needed, with space for extra layers, all our snacks, camera gear, and gloves! We were blown away by how much light this headlamp provided in the dark and how incredibly lightweight it is!

The Bug Climbing Pack 18L

The Bug is a compact bag that is designed with a low-profile and sits comfortably when wearing it. The top-loading design made accessing all our gear easy and efficient, especially being in a cramped space. Inside the pack everything was well organized, with a padded sleeve for a hydration system, multiple zippered pockets to keep small items secure, and a reinforced, highly durable base we knew where everything was. The exterior features include side compression straps, a rope attachment system, removable helmet holder, and adjustable waist and sternum straps.

All our gear was secure in and on the pack.

The Swift LT Headlamp

The SWIFT LT headlamp is built for being ultra-light! At only 43g it still offers incredible light with 380 lumens with a wide and even beam, it was easy to see far back inside the caves! With three white lighting modes, a red light option for preserving night vision, and a rechargeable USB-C battery, it’s the perfect headlamp for performance, efficiency, and ease of use for any activity. Compact, comfortable, and secure with an adjustable headband, it stayed secure on our helmets.

We’ll be packing these two on all our upcoming caving trips!
