What to Do if Your Package is Lost or Stolen?

We strive to ensure that your packages arrive safely. All orders from VPO ship with tracking information to help you coordinate a successful delivery.  However, in the unfortunate event of a lost or stolen package, here are some steps you can take:

 

Check with Neighbors

Ask your neighbors if they saw anything or if the package was mistakenly delivered to their address. Sometimes, packages are left in the wrong location.

 

Check Security Cameras

If you have security cameras or a video doorbell, check the footage for any evidence of the theft. This information may be helpful for the police investigation. It's a good idea to have an affordable door cam set up to help protect your home.

  

Contact Your Credit Card Company

If you paid for the item with a credit card, your credit card provider may offer purchase protection. Reach out to them to check your options.

  

File a Police Report

If you suspect porch piracy, you can file a police report. Sharing doorbell camera footage with the police can help in the investigation.

 

Homeowner's Insurance

Most homeowners or renters’ insurance policies cover stolen packages both inside and outside your home. This is usually helpful for purchases that are worth more than your deductible.

 

Prevent Future Thefts

Consider taking steps to prevent future package thefts. This may include installing a door cam, using package lockers, requesting signature confirmation for deliveries, or having packages delivered to a more secure location (such as your workplace or a trusted neighbor).  

Keep track of any updates from the delivery carrier. They may provide information that can assist in resolving the situation. The sooner you can pick up your package from the porch, the less likely you are to experience any theft.
